First Post of 2011 Boo-yah :)

I'm a member on DeviantArt, a website entirely dedicated to art with some of the greatest artist I've ever seen. Honestly looking at some of the art on there makes me feel like trash sometimes but I always tell myself that I'll be as good as them one day, if not better. That's the wonderful thing about art and most things in life. You can get better at just about anything. All it takes is the drive and the dedication. And art is something that you constantly improve in, you never stop getting better. It's impossible!
But back to main point, so I'm a member on DA and also part of a Disney group. The Disney group was holding a contest for Disney shorts, including Fantasia. At first I had decided to do Sorcerer Mickey, a wonderful chance to work with a classic and an oppurtunity to practice lighting. Then I reread the post about the contest and thought it would be better to do something else. I knew for sure it would be Fantasia, something more like classic art rather than cartoons. So I chose the dance of the sugar plum fairy.
Look up the video on youtube if you haven't seen it because it some the most beautiful animation ever. I love flowers and fairies and it was just so gorgeous that I was so happy I had changed my mind about doing the Sorcerer's Apprentice.
This was a really fun piece to work with, drawing her exaggerated porpotions was awesome. It kinda gave me a chance to step out of my usual boundaries, because anatomy is NOT the easiest part about drawing. And then the colors, and the lighting, just so much fun. I wish everything I did was so enjoyable. This just felt so right, but alas I did not win the contest. What can you do? There'll be more and I'll get better as I've stated earlier so no worries.

Meet Gemma Doyle. She's not your average girl. She's a rebellious redhead living in Victorian England. She and her friends aren't exactly the type of people who sit tight and do as they're told. Nope, they're adventurous dreamers who won't take no for an answer.
I don't recall any particular scene where Gemma was peeking through a crack in a doorway, but it seemed like the kind of thing she would do. After leafing through the books again I found a scene where she hid behind a potted fern so close enough.
The Gemma Doyle Trilogy (A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, and The Sweet Far Thing) was a great series and I had lot of fun reading it a couple years ago. It's filled with scandal, romance, magic, adventure, and pretty much everything you could ever want from a book. I really like Libba Bray in general though. She's a funny and wacky kind of person. Her live journal posts are pretty entertaining, and I really like her other novel, Going Bovine. It was pretty out there,(It's about a boy with mad cow disease who goes on a road trip with a dwarf, a pink-haired angel, and a gnome) but definetly a good read that makes you appreciate life in the end.
Sorry about the watermark by the way, but I'm really paranoid about art theft and I've seen it happen to some really talented people. Better safe then sorry, right?
